Ohio State Email FAQs

BuckeyeMail

How do I sign up?

Once you've been admitted to OSU you can sign up for BuckeyeMail at my.osu.edu.  You will automatically be given a lastname.#@osu.edu e-mail address and all email sent to lastname.#@osu.edu will be forwarded to your BuckeyeMail account.   One you become an OSU Student, you will automatically be given a BuckeyeMail account, lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu if you did not already do so as an admitted applicant. All students will be given a BuckeyeMail account.  It is suggested that you utilize BuckeyeMail as your primary OSU Student Email.  Please follow the link, Why should I use BuckeyeMail as a Student, for more information.

How long will it take between the sign up and when I can start using the account?

Usually about one hour.

If I sign up, will my Name.#@osu.edu address change?

No. You will keep the same lastname.#@osu.edu e-mail address. E-mail sent to either lastname.#@osu.edu or lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu will go to your BuckeyeMail account. Your outgoing e-mail and replies will carry lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu as your address.

Please note – Delivery of your e-mail lastname.#@osu.edu to lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu is setup by default but can be changed at any time.  If you select at my.osu.edu to forward your lastname.#@osu.edu to a different email service then e-mail sent to your lastname.#@osu.edu will go to that separate email service and you will have lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu deliver to BuckeyeMail.  Please look at KB02176 for additional information.

The login page is asking for my Sign in with your work or school account account. What's that?

Your BuckeyeMail organizational account is lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu.

You need to put the @buckeyemail.osu.edu as a part of the username.

Your BuckeyeMail Office 365 ID is a new separate ID and does not interfere with any account you may have already set up with Microsoft.

What are the benefits to students?
  • Calendar feature for personal, academic and student involvement use (record appointments, share calendars, schedule meetings)
  • Recognition and credibility of the buckeyemail.osu.edu address - particularly valuable in conducting official university business or communicating with professors who may not recognize non-OSU addresses
  • Ability to synchronize contacts and calendars with Android, Windows Mobile, and iPhone systems
  • Anti-Spam and virus protection
What does BuckeyeMail cost me?

BuckeyeMail is a free service to current students.

What happens to my e-mail during account creation?

While your BuckeyeMail account is being created, your e-mail will be delivered to the same place it has been going before you signed-up for BuckeyeMail (the forwarding address of your choice). Once the account has been fully created, all mail sent to lastname.#@osu.edu from that point on will be forwarded to your new BuckeyeMail account.
