Microsoft Visio is a diagramming and vector graphics application used to create flowcharts, org charts, network diagrams, and more, offering features like data visualization, collaboration tools, and integration with other Microsoft 365 apps.

Visio in Microsoft 365 (on the web) allows users to create, view, edit and share Visio diagrams using a standard web browser. Visio for the web is part of Microsoft 365 and is available to all university faculty, staff, students and guests. Medical Center employees do not have accounts on the university tenant and would access any Microsoft 365 applications through the Medical Center portal.

Visio in Microsoft 365 Plan 1 and Visio in Microsoft 365 Plan 2 can be purchased for an additional cost.

Purchasing Visio Plan 1 or Plan 2

If a user needs a feature in either Plan 1 or Plan 2 they may purchase the upgrade by following these steps.

A request for a quote will need to be sent by the requestor to our Microsoft Licensing vendor, currently SHI at msmidatlantic@shi.com .

SHI will send quote to requestor, if approved by requestor, the requestor will need to request SHI to enter the quote into Workday.

Requestor will need to complete purchase through Workday.

SHI will complete the purchase within their system and reach out to Microsoft to have the license assigned to The Ohio State University production Tenant.

Once purchase is completed:

  • Requestor will need to submit a generic request with the IT Service Desk requesting to have the license(s) assigned with the below information.
  • SHI Order number (Quote/Order attached to ticket)
  • Microsoft acknowledgement order attached to ticket
  • PO Number
  • Quantity of licenses purchased
  • Coverage dates (Start and End dates)
  • Name.# for person(s) that need to be assigned a license.

Ticket will be assigned to the University Email Service Support assignment group to assign the license to the person(s).

  • UES/Office365 Services Team will verify licenses have been assigned to tenant, once verified, the license(s) will be assigned to the users.
  • If the licenses have not been assigned to the tenant the UES/O365 team member will reach out to the requestor to inform them the license(s) have not been assigned to the tenant and will work with requestor and SHI to resolve the licensing issue.

This is a yearly charge and will need to be renewed each fiscal year after May 1st and prior to May 31st. The requestor is responsible for license renewal and initiating the renewal process with vendor. Requestor will need to submit a generic request to the IT Service Desk if license(s) are not renewed, change in name.#, or reduction in license count with name.# of who the license should be removed from.
